During Spring of 2020, the ENERPLAGE drainage system was set up in Saint-Jean-de-Luz to provide seawater to the Thalazur Sea Spa Centre : filtered seawater for the pools but also to meet the air-conditioning needs (heat and cold) of the buildings.
As part of a complete renovation of the Sea Spa Centre, an ENERPLAGE drainage system was implemented in the Spring of 2020. The drains will make it possible to supply seawater to the pools and spa treatments but also to supply the heat pumps of the infrastructure. Using seawater as a way to heat and cool buildings is called "ocean thermal energy". This technology is a way to reduce costs by using less energy but more importantly be more ecological (80% less CO2 and up to 75% of saved energy).
Until now, the seawater needs of the centre had been supplied by an offshore seawater intake. It was replaced by the ENERPLAGE drainage system. The latter doesn't require underwater work or maintenance, and in addition, the drainage system uses the filtering capacity of beach sand to provide higly filtered seawater.
The installation of a 300m system of drains parallel to the coastline, during the spring of 2020, collects enough seawater to meet the needs of the Thalazur Sea Spa Centre.
Installation of the system :
- 300m of drains
- 1 collector well
- 1 pumping station integrated into the existing building
